Athlete Activism Summit by Adidas
Athlete Ally educates athletic communities at all levels—sport governing bodies, teams, and individual athletes—to understand obstacles to inclusion for LGBTQ people in sports and how they can build inclusive communities on their teams or within their organizations.
Over the course of four days in Seattle, college athletes, coaches, and administrators from across the country gathered at Athlete Ally’s Summit to build community, gain knowledge, and commit to actions to foster greater LGBTQI+ inclusion and allyship on their campuses. These leaders shared how they are using education, policy reform, athlete activism, and groundbreaking research to champion LGBTQI+ inclusion in and through sport.
The goal was to hold an event that unites these student leaders & breaks down barriers while inspiring them to work together to foster real change. They’ll arrive feeling welcomed & included in a safe space–and leave feeling empowered & inspired, knowing they are an integral part of this historic movement.
The look and feel of the event was inspired by the visual language of protest posters, flyers and zines; grassroots design with a distinctly human edge. We brought in DIY style way finding, taped and layered flyers, hand drawn elements, and raw materials like plywood. Graphics used halftones and shades to evoke paint, ink or toner on colored cardstock; an homage to the single-color print style of ‘60s/’70s counterculture.
